With an HDMI 1.4 interface, USB Capture HDMI Plus can capture signal from PS4, Xbox One, graphics cards, high definition cameras (professional/sports/surveillance/video conference) and other devices. The maximum input resolution and frame rate is 4960 x2160p60 (4:2:0). The device automatically down scales the video to 1080p60 for recording and streaming.
Compared to Magewell's original USB dongles with just an HDMI or SDI input, the USB Capture HDMI Plus and SDI Plus have an input interface as well as a loop through one, which enables monitoring the image while streaming and/or recording. In addition, the new dongles have different audio input and output functions. A 3.5mm audio interface allows for capture of analog audio from a separate audio device (not embedded in HDMI input). This eliminates the need for an additional audio capture device. The 3.5mm headphones interface allows for playback of audio (either extracted from the embedded HDMI audio or from the analog audio input).
The USB capture devices can be used in a variety of industries including sports and live events broadcasting and recording, video conferencing, medical imaging and surveillance. You can use it to capture a video output device or the desktop of the streaming computer.
Video Processing by Hardware - The USB Capture Plus Family has video processing functions including up/down conversion, frame rate control, brightness/saturation/contrast/hue adjustment and de-interlacing. The device has powerful FPGAs to process video before transferring data to the computer resulting in 0 CPU usage.
USB Capture Software Utility - A software included with the device enables advanced functions and more control over the device, such as resolution and frame rate setting, color space conversion, vertical flip and mirror, extraction of HDMI information, EDID, cropping and more.
Better Audio - The USB Capture Family adopts ASRC (Asynchronous Sample Rate Converter) technology, which is used in professional USB sound cards.
The USB Capture Plus Family is compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac OS X and the device is compatible with most popular professional third party software for streaming, recording, video conferencing, video stitching, VJ, etc.
The devices use USB 3.0 interface. They also support a USB 2.0 interface. However, it is important to note that when a USB 2.0 interface is used, the real-time frame rate will be reduced due to limited bandwidth. Users can also use a USB 3.0-to-Type C cable to connect it via USB Type C interface on the computer. Additionally, the unit is powered over USB so no external power is needed.
